He may not be one of the most popular or easily comes to mind but he has been around for quite some time and has had a few toys over the years, so Blades is the star today:

• 1986 – Hasbro – Unknown class – G2 Blades: He transforms into a Red and White Bell UH-1V Iroquois Helicopter. Part of the “Scramble city” combiner team Protectobots he can be a leg or arm of any combiner in the sub-line but he normally forms Defensor’s right arm. He was sold separately.

• 1986 – Hasbro – Unknown class – Gift set G1 Blades: The same exact toy but sold with the rest of the Protectobots in a gift set.

• unreleased – Hasbro – Unknown class – G2 Blades: This toy was unreleased but he was planned and some toys were made with only about 6 or so have been spotted over the years making him one of the rarest Transformers ever. He is basically the same toy but repainted in Blue and Black in a SWAT style.

• 2008 – Hasbro – Voyager class – Autobot Blades: after a long hiatus Blades made a return but his name had to be altered with the Autobot precursor due to trademark issues. He transforms into a Eurocopter Dauphin rescue helicopter in mostly Red and some White. He is a repaint of Cybertron Evac and the mold was also used for Universe Springer and Timelines/Shattered Glass Galvatron.

• 2008 – Hasbro – Legends class – Aerial Rivals Autobot Blades:  A simplistic smaller version of the voyager version is also a repaint of Cybertron Evac and was also used for Classics Whirl. He comes with more White then before and some Blue details. He was only available as a Target exclusive in a Five-pack with Legends Class Air Raid, Skydive, Ramjet, and Thrust.

• 2009 – Hasbro – Legends class – Protectobots Evac Squad Blades: Part of the Revenge of the Fallen line he transforms into a White and Red V-22 Osprey and for the first time he is not a helicoptor but he has rotors so it counts… a repaint of Legends class Springer. He comes in a 4-pack with the Legends class figures Jetfire, Spinister and Thundercracker.

• 2011 – Hasbro – Rescue bot class – Rescue bots Blades: Part of Rescue bot line geared for young children. He transforms into a Orange and White helicopter with a Blue bubble canopy and they made one repaint of this toy in his name. He transforms with a twist of the knob on his propeller.

• 2014 – Hasbro – Deluxe class – Evac Squad Blades: A Blue, White and some Red repaint of Revenge of the Fallen Blazemaster. He was packed with Hotspot in a 2-pack as an exclusive to Amazon and Big Bad Toy Store in the North American markets and Toys R Us in the Asian markets.

• 2015 – Hasbro – Deluxe class – Combiner Wars Blades: Part of the Combiner Wars sub-line of the current Generations line. He is a repaint / retool of Alpha Bravo and like all limb combiners can form any limb on any combiner in the line but he normally forms Defensor’s right arm.

• 2015 – Takara – Deluxe class – Unite Warriors Blades: Part of Takara’s Unite Warriors line he is due out soon and is slight repaint of the Hasbro release and is sold in a gift set with all the Protectobots (with the exception of Rook who has been substituted by a full sized Motorcycle named Guardian since Groove has already been introduced as a Legend class toy)

Well there you have it, a smaller entry but an interesting one, he started out as a new mold but then he kept getting repaints / remolds most times. He is an important part of the combiner wars and Defensor. Thanks for reading, see you next time.
